Don’t worry — the Alertacall team will install the device and walk you through how it works. You’ll also receive a printed guide. If you ever need help, you can press the pink button on your device or call the support team for free on 0808 208 1234.
Why we’re introducing Alertacall to Retirement Living
We want to make it easier for you to stay connected, whether that’s receiving important updates, reporting repairs, or getting in touch with us when you need to. Alertacall also gives you the option of more regular contact if that’s something you’d find helpful.
The service has been developed to meet new expectations around communication and digital access, and it’s all about supporting our Customers to live more independently, with confidence and control.
What is Alertacall and how does it work?
Alertacall is a small, portable touchscreen device that sits within a secure stand in your home - usually somewhere like your coffee table, where it’s easy to reach. It gives you direct access to:
- Updates and messages about your home or Community.
- A simple way to report non-urgent repairs (emergencies should still be phoned in).
- A messaging tool to speak with us via text or audio.
- Optional daily check-ins using the OKEachDay® button.
- Surveys and reminders (for things like appointments or medication).
- Access to the Customer Portal (coming soon), where you’ll be able to check rent balances, pay bills and more.
The touchscreen is powered through the mains and includes a rechargeable battery in case of a power cut. It connects using a built-in 4G SIM card, so you don’t need WiFi or broadband to use it. You also don’t need a mobile or landline phone - it works completely independently.
The benefits to you
- Stay updated - Get messages and important information about your home and Community directly on your device.
- Report repairs easily - Use the touchscreen to log non-urgent repairs without needing to call or email. It’s visual and simple to use.
- Live independently with confidence - You’re in control of how much contact you want. The service is there to support your routine - not interrupt it.
- No cost to you - The service is fully funded through Housing Benefit or Universal Credit. If you’re an existing self-funding Customer as of April 2025, you will have access to a transitionary relief fund to cover the cost of this new service.
Your questions answered
I’ve never used a touchscreen - what if I need help?
Will Alertacall affect my phone, internet, or TV?
No - everything in your home will continue working as normal. Alertacall is separate from your existing phone or internet service.
Can I move the device?
Yes, it’s portable. Just make sure it’s plugged back in afterwards so it can continue working. A full charge will last up to two days depending on how much it’s used.
Does the touchscreen use a lot of electricity?
No, it uses minimal electricity and typically costs between 7p and 14p a week, depending on your provider.
What if I have difficulty seeing or using the screen?
We can adapt the device for your needs. Audio messages, larger icons, and even stylus pens are available for anyone with sight or dexterity issues.
Do I have to use the OKEachDay® button?
Not at all. You choose how much contact you’d like - daily, weekly or not at all. You can press the button or speak to someone; it’s entirely up to you. If you forget to press it, the team will check in to make sure everything’s OK.
When and how installation will happen
Installation is set to be completed between April and May 2025.
You should have received a letter in advance of your February rent and service charge statement explaining everything. When the team visits, they’ll spend about 20 minutes installing the device and showing you how to use it.
All team members carry official ID, and if you’re not home, they’ll try again or you can call 0808 156 5778 to arrange a better time.
